Mum, I don't want you to die...

“Everyone dies darling. It’s kind of the deal. If you live, you eventually die.
Some of us live only briefly, like a butterfly - a butterfly might only live for one day! But some of us live longer.”
”I don’t want you to go anywhere though. I want you to always be with me, forever.”
“What about when you go to Preschool. I’d cramp your style if i was to come to preschool with you.”
”No Mummy.” Her little face crumples. “I just don’t want you to die.”
”Mmmmm… I understand. You don’t want to be without me, without a Mummy. I can’t promise you I won’t die. One day, my body won’t work so well for me anymore and it will die. But! I’ll always be with you. My body is just my body. The me that’s inside my body is always and forever. It doesn’t die. And that part of me will be with you forever.”
”But I love your body. I want to be able to look at your face and you look at my face and cuddle me.”
”Yeah, cuddles are the best, aren’t they? I love cuddling you too. And looking at you.
Tell you what. Let’s cuddle lots everyday. And I’ll look at your lovely face and you can look at mine and we’ll make the most of having these precious bodies while we’ve got them.”
